Literally just installed this, very straight forward setup (grant permission in System Prefs, and set to run in background). BAM! Done. Shall report back if I come across any issues.
I have been looking for such an utility for a very long time a finally I found it! I downloaded the free version and then realised it allowed to create just 1 type of file (selectable), but that’s ok, it’s free! Anyway, after testing it did exactly what I needed, I immediately purchased the full version. Very, very good job! Thanks a lot to the sw vendor. Luciano
Works great in El Capitan
Great little utility. Confirmed working in El Capitan v10.11.4.
Excellent. Works flawlessly. Extensions are there, either in the right-click or in the Finder window top bar. The option “open after create” just opens a Finder window with the new file selected. You still have to double-click on the created file to open it in its home app, but that’s livable-with (yeah, I know, ick on the grammar). Very happy with this.
I frequently need to add text files to files that explain what to do. On Windows you could simply right click with your mouse and choose New Text File. On Macs, you needed to find TextEdit, choose new, and choose save as and navigate to your file location. Total time sync. With NEW FILE MENU installed and enabled in my System Preferences > Extensions I can now right click with my mouse or two finger my track pad (or Ctrl click with an Apple mouse) and get access to a new host of options! New Text Files, New iWorks or Office documents or any other kind of app you want to add as a template. My Favorite New Template Setup? New File Menu Preferences > General > Turn on “Open file on creation.” New File Menu Preferences > Templates > + > add your favorite text app (mono draw, BBEdit, TextWrangler,TeXshop, etc LOVE THIS APP - THANK YOU CORAL WU!!
After being driven up the wall at not being able to right click and make a new text file this is frickin’ great! I now use TotalFinder to make my folders show at the top and this to solve the remaining issue. :)
Wow this is exactly what MacOS needs and I will gladly pay $1.99 for it. If you someone like me who has many levels of folders and it annoys the crap out of you all the clicks that are needed to save/open a new file in the deep location, then this is the app for you. I’m still in disbelieve how much easier this has made my day to day experiance on MacOS.
Works flawlessly. Ive needed a fast and simple way to create an rtf file. Other utilities just miss the mark. NOT THIS ONE. There is a plethora of document types to choose from: Word, PowerPoint, Numbers, Pages about 15 to choose from. The helper application works in the background after quitting the utility.

Simply doesn’t work anymore
I tried all of the troubleshooting tips online as well as uninstall, reboot, reinstall, and it still doesn’t work.
Quick Actions works in iCloud Drive
was initially bummed the right click didn’t work in iCloud drive, but ChatGPT said that’s a Mac limitation. Quick Actions DID work in iCloud Drive though, so i’m happy!

Doesn’t work on desktop
It doesn’t work on the desktop which makes it pretty useless for my work flow. Synched folders (icloud) also look like a no go.Looked in their documentation and I’m just seeing a bunch of references to older menus that were in previous versions of macos. Looks like it might not be developed any more? Either that or they’ve never updated their documentation to reflect the changes.
Doesn’t Work and Support is Non-existent
Like the title says, this doesn’t work on Sequoia and tryin to reach support isn’t gonna happen. They clearly don’t care. At least it was cheap enough to ay I didn’t lose out to much money for this piece of garbage.
Temporary Review—v.1.7.4 (23)
The app no longer functions on MacOS 15.1 dev beta 3. When Right Click in Finder > New File > Text File/Rich Text Document/Word File etc., it results in the error code “Unable to create file! [¶] No suitable file template found.” And you can only “OK” it. ***UPDATE*** I managed to debug the issue, and found that the fact that MacOS allows for the different character set allowed in directory/folder names including, MacOS allowing the use of “?” (and likely “!” would cause the same issue) trips up New File Menu (and likely New File Menu Lite as well). Once I removed the “?” from a directory, I was able to create any new files, of any new format in any of the subdirectories/subfolders of the folder/directory that previously had a “?” in it. Once I reentered the question mark in the folder/directory name, it resulted in the same error; however, anywhere else where no directory path included a question mark (‘?’), using the right click > new file function worked. It is clear, that a Windows approach here caused the issue. I will revise this review upon any patch issued to this—unfortunately, this in the interim, needs me to rename folders, and be cognizant to use the Mac as if it was a PC. I***OUTDATE ATTEMPTS*** Some fidgeting about with it in its Settings, trying to create a new template, etc. yielded no resolution. Please fix, I had loved this app for years. Thank you for your work!
App Issue
When open one file, second last edited file automatically gets opened (Two files get opening when opening one file). Please fix the issue. Also "New file" option comes slow when clicking right button. Please fix issues. Thanks.
Doesn't work
This doesn't work on my laptop running Sonoma.
Weak & Convoluted
Works good in local folders. Useless for cloud folders. Instructions say to use Quick Actions for cloud folders. Ok great, but an existing file or folder must be highlighted to get the Quick Actions to appear in the right click menu. Then once the Quick Action New File commands appear in the right click menu, it is still necessary to navigate through the folder structure to the location of the current folder. This is no easier for cloud folders than creating a new file from within an application. IMHO, this app needs work. Definitely not worth the money or effort.

Great little utility
does not work in MacOS Sonoma
I gave the app a bad review sahying that it stopped working in Sonoma. The developer contacted me and a workaround. This problem occurs in many cloud storage folders.
Doesn't work within Dropbox folders
As far as I can tell (at least on Sonoma 14.1) this doesn't work if the folder you're in is already contained within Dropbox. I tried adding Dropbox/etc as external volumes to the list but still don't have the menu showing up (but it DOES show up if I'm in something not with a Dropbox folder). Since I do a LOT of work in Dropbox folders this is basically useless to me. And I did try emailing the developer, twice, about this issue but never saw a reply.
Does One Thing Very VERY Well
This app is a great example of "Do one thing, but do it well." It lets you create a file in the folder you're in. And in the app's prefs, you can choose which kinds of files you want to be able to create. This keeps the new file menu simple and tailored to your needs. So simple. So good.

The one tiny thing macOS needs to copy from Windows
This app brings the one small thing I missed from Windows. Not a big thing, but still it has annoyed since a while. Works really well too! PS: I have absolutely no need for any of this app's paid features. But it is such a good app. Bought it just to support the dev!!

AMAZING! Simply Amazing!
I had to downgrade my review because this hasn't been updated in 8 months and I just upgraded to Ventura and it does NOT work at all. PLEASE fix your program I just paid for and now does not work. It is a great need for Mac owners especially windows to mac users! Thanks! If you fix it, I will update my review.
Should be native to macOS
This app is designed in a way that I would imagine a native version would behave and feel. Super quick and works exactly as expected, and very tweakable too! So many customization settings to make it behave exactly how I want. Not sure why apple doesnt have this feature when windows has had it for so long.
Stopped working for Google Drive directories. Constant pop-ups "Cannot connect to localhost"

Right-Click to create file does not work
In MacOS Ventura on 7 February 2023, the app displays the following error dialogue when trying to create any type of file: """ Error creating file! The file "TextFile.txt" doesn't exist. """ In it's current state, it is nonfunctional and should not be purchased.
Appreciate the app. Why is it not part of the OS?
As long as I've worked on Macs, I have never understood why clicking in a folder to create and launch a new text file isn't already a thing. Instead, Apple's squad thinks it's perfectly fine to open your text editor, create your file, then save-as and navigate through your directory structer to finally save it where you want it. Ugh. Thankfully, New File Menu resolves the issue for the cost of a Big Gulp, and gives you lots more options of filetypes to create, too. It is a huge timesaver for those of us who live in the gui, but I can see why command-line afficianados would find it superfluous; they can create a new file anywhere. But that's not me. And I'm thankful for New File Menu.
Word files created in Compatibility Mode
Word files are created in Compatibility Mode, which means the App creates outdated Word files. This seems to be a long-term issue. Please fix it.
Not Great
I use this program for creating new .docx documents, and it does not work very well. The new document metadata is not my default metadata, and instead writes the author as the creator of this app. Also, it creates outdated .docx files, that word runs in compatibility mode and must convert to an updated version upon saving.
An incredible idea - perfect execution
I don't ever remember using something like this on a PC. Of course it's been so many years since I've used a PC, always preferring Mac. But if this is available on PCs naturally, then it was an extreme oversight of Apple's not to put this in. Even so, the price that this costs is so reasonable that it doesn't really matter. The only problem is just knowing that it exists. This is one of those apps that you don't know you need until you install it.

No longer works within OneDrive Sync Folders
Adding this review to note that the menu no longer appears when you're in a OneDrive Sync folder. Used to work fine. I sync my root documents folder to OneDrive and work completely out of that tree, so this is now no longer working for me. Will adjust this rating once resolved Otherwise fantastic and used daily as part of my workflow.
I WOULD PAY $20 FOR THIS!
This has got to be the one thing I miss from Windows. Everything else either sucked or exists in macOS (alt-tab switching in the form of command-tab switching, for example). It is so aggravating to have to navigate AGAIN to a location on your hard drive in the Save dialog when you were already there in the Finder. This utility fixes that oversight and in fact makes it so much better than Windows with lots of options to control and customize the behavior. I LOVE IT!
Tweak for iCloud Folders
I hav been using this transparently for years. I am able to create boilerplate templates which I can use to quickly start a new project. About a year ago I put my "Documents" folder up in the cloud. New File Menu has not worked well since then. I came here today to find an app which did. After reading reviews, I learned there was a setting I had overlooked. BAM!! I repeat it here to be helpful... 1) Open the app from Applications to reveal the preferences pane 2) Choose the "Finder" tab 3) Choose the " " button in the bottom left corner 4) Select the "iCloud Drive" and choose "Add" Now New File Menu works like it should. Adding a file in an iCloud folder puts the new file in that folder, as one would expect it to. BAM!! Way to go developer! Super useful tool. Thanks!
Oh So Nice!!
Longtime Windows user attempting to move to Mac. The capability to create new files via the mouse context menu has been a standard on Windows for years and is so, so, so useful. Being able to have this same functionality on my new Mac makes my transition just a little easier. Nicely designed and highly functional. Luvin' it! FYI...I currently only have a need to create rtf documents, but bought the "paid" version just to provide support to the developer(s).
Useful, but buggy
This app is a super simple app that makes file organization much easier... that is if it worked as intended. I find that when creating new files, instead of adding the files to the file location in the folder I right clicked in, it will add to the documents to my default 'documents' folder - which makes organization more of a pain. Please fix this, otherwise 5/5
It is great App
It is a great App provides the basic function that MacOS missing. However, I use it to create new docx file, and use Microsft Word to open it. It shows Compatibility Mode, which means the app created docx file is not the latest version. Please Fix it!!!
Doesn't work well with the cloud drive
It's a great app. But there is an issue with the icloud drive. I added my Documents folder on icloud drive. And when I try to create a new file on any sub folders within Documents. It creates the file on the root directory of Documents.
Adds essential functionality to Finder!
This is something that should have been built into MacOS decades ago (as Windows and most Linux distributions have done). Nevertheless, at this bargain price, this is a must-have extension. You could replicate some of this functionality using Automator, but it's just not worth it. GET THIS EXTENSION!

Handy, but breaks file/folder badges
I like being able to right-click to create a new file (like in Windows), but it appears that this Finder extension prevents Dropbox/OneDrive/etc from being able to decorate your file icons with their sync-status. The only remedy that the developer can suggest, thus far, is to disable/re-enable this file extension after you login. Not worth the trouble, for me, so I'll leave NFM disabled until the developer has a proper fix.

Stopped Working
Recently it has stopped working. "New File Menu Extension" does not show in "System Preferences>Extensions" at all, so there is no way to enable or disable it.
Use this daily. Pretty good and almost there...
After you figure it out this app is amazing for folder and file template creation. Most other apps in this category don't allow for folders as templates. It would be great if the following features were added: 1.) Ability change template folder location would be great. It would be nice to be able to point it to user specific folder or to a Dropbox and/or iCloud folder so that templates can be synced across multiple macs. 2.) Change the app to be a Finder.app Extension. That way you don't have to configure path permissions, and external drive support can be possible with changing preference settings. 3.) Add a copy path function to the default templates. 4.) Consider making it so that you can execute a script to a file or folder that has been created after naming and creating. I would love this so you could create a template to make a folder, and then name subfolders/files via a viaraible based on the master folders name. It would be great if this eventually could become more like Client Folder Creator.app in this action. 5.) Why not integrate this app with Context Menu and New Terminal Here to make a power pack or single app? This app is incredibly useful as it now, but could become a standard app for the common use to help keep files organized for projects and folder structures. I could see businesses using this every day for new client folder organization, or project folder structure creation for new projects. Keep up the great work!
Not compatible with Onedrive or Google Drive on Catalina
this app is nice if you dont have google drive or onedrive, it will disable the sync status icon in Finder for both google drive and Onedrive. toook me 2 days to figureout. had to reinstall everything.
Just By It
This is something that should already be built into the OS but is not. If you use windows you already have this feature and understand how much easier your life will be. If you have never had this feature you will wonder how you lived with out. Taks 30 seconds to setup and then is as simple as a right mouse click to use. Just buy it, you wont regret it.
Awkward for External Disks
Update: You can add external disks through the preferences, so ignore comments on that below. Also updated rating to 4 stars. ======================================= Sigh, was hoping to match Windows. It seems to only directly work directly on the system disk and desktop. To create a file on an external disk it’s a multi-step process. 1. First Method a. Right click on Desktop b. Select “New File” and file type required c. Use the pop-up file naming dialog box to select an external disk and folder. (Note: this pop-up dialog box is a Model box that comes to the front of all windows. It cannot be moved. You must “Cancel” or “Save” to uncover other windows. It should be “Modeless”) 2. Second Method (more awkward) a. Right click on Desktop b. Select “New File” and file type required c. Use the pop-up file naming dialog box, Name the file and “Save” to default Desktop. d. Select the new file on the Desktop and “Move” (drag and hold down Command key) to a Finder window on the external disk. So, if working on the System disk its good. Need to fix the Mode of the Save dialog box though.

FINALLY a solution that helps my productivity! New File Menu works as advertised! Totally worth a few bucks. Quick and easy to install, no need to reboot computer. Mac OS: High Sierra 10.13.6
Increases Productivity
Only reason im giving 4 stars is because there is no apparent way to hide the app from the dock. Most Third party apps have this capability. Please consider adding this as an option in the settings. I know in the FAQ section it says you can quit the app and it will continue to run but there should really be an option in the settings for the app so that the user does not have to do that.
fixes missing Finder feature
This is SO much faster for quickly creating files in a specific folder. It even gives you the opportunity to apply Finder labels to the file as you create it. And the button it places in the toolbar of the window is so smoothly made you'd swear this was made by Apple.
The developer's response is very fast!
I have written 2 bug reports to the developers, and the bugs are fixed in several days. Great!
